Excellent, affordable, authentic Sichuan cuisine in increasingly hipsterish Archway. Mamamei joins Normans, Crudough, St. Johns Tavern, Archie's and other excellent eateries in the neighbourhood. The handmade noodle dishes have that characteristic "numb the tongue" effect and the dumplings are delicious. Friendly service and cheap bottles of wine are an added bonus.

We had an excellent lunch here - the prawn and chive dim sum were amazing and my partner said the braised aubergine was the best aubergine he'd ever eaten. They also have quite a lot of vegetarian dim sum options which is great to see, as some places can be a bit lacking on that side. Overall was a great find, good value, and we will definitely be returning and recommending MamaMei!

Delicious food, we went as a family of 5 and enjoyed every dish that came out. I'd particularly recommend the tofu skin salad and the dumplings in Szechuan sauce. One of the best Chinese meals we've eaten in London.

MamaMei – Holloway, London Review Atmosphere & Experience (4/5) MamaMei has a no-nonsense, eat-first vibe—it’s a place designed for enjoying great food rather than lingering for hours, though you probably could if you wanted to. It’s casual, efficient, and focused on getting bold, flavourful dishes to the table fast. Food & Flavour (5/5) We were craving something soupy and spicy, and MamaMei delivered. • Grilled turnip cake – A new discovery for us, crispy on the outside, soft and savoury inside. • Pork buns – Soft, pillowy, and great for soaking up the broth, adding an extra indulgence to the meal. • Beef noodle soup – The highlight. The server warned us it was “very, very spicy” and could be considered “torture” for some—naturally, we had to try it. It turned out to be packed with deep, complex flavours, almost like an Indian curry fused with Asian spices. Instead of a blistering, painful heat, it had a full-flavoured, warming spice that hit just right. Service (5/5) The staff were excellent—friendly, chatty, and efficient, with a great sense of humour. Their playful warning about the soup added to the fun of the experience. Value for Money (5/5) For a shared meal plus a pot of tea, the total came to 31.46—which felt like great value for the quality and portion sizes. Given the richness of the flavours and the satisfying portions, this was money well spent. Overall Rating: 4.5/5 MamaMei delivers on flavour, atmosphere, and value. If you’re after authentic, bold Asian flavours, a comforting bowl of noodles, and a lively, unfussy dining experience, this is a must-visit. And honestly, they should just rename the beef noodle soup “Torture Soup”—it would be a hit. Would I return? Absolutely.

Really glad to find this restaurant has opened up locally. Dishes are such a reasonable price that I plan to come here again and often. We had pork and prawn wonton noodle soup, beef brisket noodle soup and the Beijing pork dumplings. The beef brisket noodle soup was the standout dish...the meat was so tender and melt-in-your-mouth. Update: I’ve been coming here quite often and a favourite of mine is the twice-cooked pork with a bowl of white rice. Perfection!

Lovely spot near Archway with amazing Sichuan/Chinese food. This is a real gem that apparently has been around for about 2 years. Shame we only just discovered it now but better late than never. Archway/Holloway/Highgate had been missing a good Sichuan/Chinese restaurant but that gap is finally filled.

Just had lunch and it was absolutely delicious. Authenticate Chinese flavours from the dishes we ordered. I will be back to try the dim sum, and other rice dishes next time. Update - just came for the dim sum, and yes it’s really good, felt a lot of it was hand made and really delicious.

Really tasty food and good service. The food was prepared quite quick. The pretty waitress was polite, always smiled and served well. Their dumplings are very different from other restaurants as they are handmade and decent Overall it's a nice and great local shop and suitable for family . Will recommend this place!
